This place is magic. Piñata's hang from the ceiling and small tables that sit between the aisle of this mexican grocery. This is where the boys from Home Depot come to eat and that's for good reason. The tacos were authentic and delicious. The Orchata sits in what looks like a giant pretzel jar and tasted like the milk from a unicorn! EAT HERE!!!

Disappointed. The reviews made my mouth water, BUT we went for a quick dinner bite at 7:15, but the lady at the order window said, "CLOSED!" The door showed closing was at 8pm. What is up with that? Will not be back.

REAL Mexican. Excellent Shrimp Caldo and Shrimp Tostada. Pre-marinated meats/poultry in the deli case so you can take home and throw on the grill. If you want a fried chimichanga and a nuclear green margarita with a side of jalapeno poppers this ain't your place.

The food was wonderful, but this isn't a place for tourist though. Two families read the reviews and we decided to give it a try. The interior was not a pristine restaurant, but rather a market and restaurant next door. There were no waiters there. You had to place your order at a counter and wait for it. None of the people that worked there seemed to speak any English. We were hoping to have chips, queso and salsa, but they did not offer that, nor did they have alcohol. That being said, the fresh pineapple juice and fish tacos were amazing. I would definitely return, but wouldn't take the entire family next time.

I am married to a Mexican and have lived for years in TX, AZ, and CA, so I know authentic Mexican food when I eat it and this place HAS IT in spades! All of the reviews you see here are accurate. I ate there this last Sunday and they had my favorite, Lengua (cow tongue), carnitas (pork), carne asada (steak), pollo (chicken), and everything else to go along with all of their great sauces, both spicy and not so spicy hot and green tomatillo sauce too. They also had fresh onion and cilantro too. The Mexican market next door has real Mexican Cokes too, made the old fashioned way, not like our horrible sodas made with high fructose corn syrup which ruins the taste and texture. Try a Mexican Coke and you'll never go back. The girls working there were very sweet y muy lindas tambien:)

This place rocks. I'm in the middle of my meal and had to stop to review. This is some of the best stuff I've ever had. As for its authenticity it's packed and I'm the only gringo in here.

We really enjoyed eating lunches here when living down at the beach- no tourists here! It's hard to find cheap, delicious food around Santa Rosa Beach but this place has it. We loved their tacos, but they offer a number of other platters and sandwiches (tortas). Great for finding "authentic" Mexican ingredients in their grocery store. More info at my blog!

The only thing that gets anything close to a star here were the beans. This was the worst food I've eaten in years! Couldn't hardly get it to go down the hatch. I've also lived in San Anton and know what "authentic" mexican tastes like, as well as my hubs being from there. Steer clear of here. And to the ppl above that said it was cheap...I could've eaten at the local seafood restaurant that has edible delicious fresh seafood for what I paid to eat this nastiness! COMPLETE disappointment here to include the flat mexican coke as well....ZERO stars

Lived in San Antonio & Austin for 12 years & knew the right places to go - the places with the tortillas made by hand and Espanol was the lingua franca. This is a legit hispanic market. About half the staff spoke English but everyone was really helpful. They had several types of tacos that I was not familiar with so I tried a variety. Everything was solid, fresh and authentic. This is not a taco shell made out of cool ranch doritos. If you're looking for anglicized tacos, you should probably keep rolling on to Destin or PCB -- but if you like authentic tacos, this is worth a try.

Best tacos and tortas in Walton County, hands down. The pastor, chorizo and barbacoa absolutely kill it. Their salsas on the table are delicious, especially the orange one. In addition to having the best tacos around, their selection of goods in the store is great. They have all kinds of herbs and snacks that you can't find anywhere else, and a pretty good butcher, as far as I can tell.

This is the real deal!!! Great, authentic Mexican tacos in a soft corn tortilla container with very generous portions of meat: tacos al pastor (pork marinated in chile and cooked on a rotisserie, sort of like a Mexican version of the shawarma common in Arab countries , with the obvious difference being that the predominantly Muslim Arabs of course don't eat pork so shawarma is made from lamb and beef), tacos de carne asada (grilled flank steak, a good choice for "beginners" in the authentic Mexican taco area), tripas (intestines, so this is not for novices), and a few other choices.. Only $2 a taco, the young woman who was cooking today stuffed qutie a bit of meat into my tacos al pastor and tacos de tripas.. I had 2 of each and left completely stuffed! The usual toppings are available (cilantro , onion, radishes, lime, hot sauces.. ) They also have authentic Mexican style sandwiches (tortas) for $5.50 stuffed with various meats and some veggies.. Seems to be a popular place for local Mexican immigrant construction workers to eat after work , this shows it is good. This is a very simple, no frills kind of place.. The restaurant is in the back of a small Mexican grocery store, which seems to have reasonable prices. Today (Feb 2011) was my first time here, but I am sure I will be back many times .. Convenient location right on US 98 makes this a good pitstop..

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
